The Government of Canada announced the following supports on May 13:
Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF)
The Government of Canada announced the details of a new program today. This fund may work for many businesses that did not qualify for other Federal programs. It recognizes that some business owners and support organizations have not been able to access other federal emergency support measures and that is why they have created the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF). The RRRF will help businesses and organizations continue their operations, including paying their employees, and support projects by businesses, organizations and communities to prepare now for a successful recovery. You can apply here. A portion will be delivered by ACOA and a portion will be delivered in more rural areas by the Atlantic Association of CBDCs. The fund is limited so interested parties should plan to apply soon. More information concerning the RRRF is available here.
Canada Emergency Student Benefit
Applications begin Friday, May 15, for the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB). The CESB provides financial support to post-secondary students, and recent post-secondary and high school graduates who are unable to find work due to COVID-19. This benefit is for students who do not qualify for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) or Employment Insurance (EI).
From May to August 2020, the CESB provides a payment of $1,250 for each 4-week period to eligible students. Those students living with a disability and those students with dependents may receive $2,000 for each 4-week period. You can apply over the phone or through your CRA My Account.
