The province’s Graduate to Opportunity program helps small businesses hire recent university and college graduates by providing salary support for the first two years of employment. The province contributes 25% the first year and 12.5% the second year for new jobs paying at least $30,000.
The process is quick and easy: complete applications are normally approved within a few days.
It’s available to companies of 100 employees or less, start-ups, non-profits and social enterprises.
“The feedback we’re hearing from employers is really encouraging,” says Labour and Advanced Education Minister Kelly Regan. “They’re telling us that their new employees are bringing enthusiasm, creativity and loads of skill to the workplace.
“We all have an interest in seeing young, well-educated graduates pursue their careers and their lives in Nova Scotia and businesses have another, hard-nosed reason for hiring a grad: they deliver.”
More than 200 graduates have been hired through Graduate to Opportunity since it was launched in February, 2015. The province doubled the program budget, to $3.2 million, this year.
